Larry Holmes doesn’t believe Tyson Fury is the greatest heavyweight boxer of his generation, citing his lack of competition as a big reason why.
The Gypsy King improved his unbeaten record to 33 fights after knocking out Dillian Whyte in April, before retiring during his post-fight ring interview.
Fury has stated in the past that he’s the best fighter to have ever lived but Holmes, who won the inaugural IBF heavyweight title and held the WBC title during his legendary career, isn’t convinced that’s the case.
“He doesn’t have too much competition,” the 72-year-old told iFL TV.
“[The division is] not as strong. When I fought, I had guys like Ken Norton, George Foreman, Muhammad Ali out there.
“There were strong guys who were dedicated and discipline themselves just for boxing.”
“He’s staying, he’s going to fight again because once that gets in your blood you keep it there,” Holmes concluded.
